CERAMIC SUPER SADDLEceramic super saddle
APPLICATIONS
One of the major mass transfer benefits of this tower packing is its shape; a saddle shape that provides two of the most important criteria of any tower packing: (1) maximum usable area for liquid and gas contact;(2) minimum resistance to liquid and gas flow through the column.
Regardless of how ceramic packing falls when randomly dumped into a tower, the unique saddle shape minimized pattern packing. It is impossible for any two saddles to cover one another to a degree which would significantly reduce the effective surface area for liquid and gas contact.
Super saddles also offer the advantage of random configuration and efficiency, but provide the additional benefit of 86% (or more) increase capacity when compared to Raschig rings.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Chemical stoneware and chemical porcelain packings resist all acids, alkalies and solvents, other than hydrofluoric acid and hot caustics.
Porcelain is superior to stoneware in hot caustic service because it can withstand 10% sodium hydroxide service up to 52° C (125 degree F) and 1% sodium hydroxide service at temperatures up to 93° C (200 degree F)
RECOMMENDED USES
The chemical resistance and economical installation of ceramic packings have led to their use in many mass transfer applications including; hot potassium carbonate; chlorine cooling and drying, absorption; mercaptan removal; natural gas or LPG sweetening; and corrosive distillation.
